Buterin tweeted, "Rest in peace Kabochan," in response to the tweet by Kabosu's owner, Atsuko Sato (@kabosumama), announcing the Shiba Inu's passing at the age of 19. Kabosu rose to fame in 2010 when her photos went viral on the internet, inspiring Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer to create the first-ever meme cryptocurrency, Dogecoin (DOGE), in 2013.

Kabosu's image became the beloved mascot of the Dogecoin community, further amplifying her popularity alongside the rapidly expanding DOGE army.
