In a heartfelt gesture, Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder and frontman of the Ethereum blockchain, took to his account on the X social media platform to express his condolences over the passing of Kabosu, the legendary Shiba Inu dog behind the iconic Doge meme. This act further solidified Buterin's support and respect for the Dogecoin community.

Buterin tweeted, "Rest in peace Kabochan," in response to the tweet by Kabosu's owner, Atsuko Sato (@kabosumama), announcing the Shiba Inu's passing at the age of 19. Kabosu rose to fame in 2010 when her photos went viral on the internet, inspiring Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer to create the first-ever meme cryptocurrency, Dogecoin (DOGE), in 2013.

Kabosu's image became the beloved mascot of the Dogecoin community, further amplifying her popularity alongside the rapidly expanding DOGE army. As the news of Kabosu's passing spread, prominent figures within the crypto community, including Elon Musk, the official Dogecoin account, and DOGE founder Billy Markus, paid tribute to the iconic dog, sharing the grief of the Dogecoin community.

Musk tweeted that the dog had "ascended to heaven," while Markus shared a meme depicting Kabosu conversing with Death, who told the dog, "I'm told you were the best."

This is not the first time Buterin has shown respect and support for the DOGE community. Earlier, the Ethereum founder made several substantial donations to the Dogecoin Foundation. In 2021, Buterin became a member of this organization in an attempt to propose improvements to DOGE, including transitioning the cryptocurrency from a proof-of-work algorithm to a proof-of-stake one.

Buterin's tribute to Kabosu and his continued support for the Dogecoin community highlight his recognition of the significance of meme culture and the role it has played in the crypto space. It also demonstrates his willingness to engage with and support various communities within the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem.

As the Dogecoin community mourns the loss of their beloved mascot, Buterin's gesture serves as a reminder of the camaraderie and mutual respect that exist among different projects and communities, united by their shared passion for blockchain technology and its potential to reshape the future of finance and beyond.
